Frequently Asked Questions!!

We have listed some of the questions we get asked most. It is important when you have a question to ask it, there is no such thing as a stupid question when you are on a care journey of any kind. We are here to answer yours but here are some we get a lot.

Will they need to go into care home?

No, at BYS we ensure that we work alongside the community teams of nurse to keep your loved ones at home. In only very rare situations is there a medical need for someone to go into hospital or hospice care.

Will they become aggressive with their dementia?

Everyone’s experience of living with dementia is different. In our experience aggression only happens if there is a communication breakdown. We have supported many individuals who have been reported as aggressive and found them to be fine once in our services. When the individual feels they are not being listened too, they will express themselves in any way they can. So, the answer is it is very unlikely if you have the right support and listen to the person and respect that they have choice and a right to be heard you shouldn’t see aggression.

Will they forget who I am?

The sad truth is it is likely that they will in most cases, but there will be an element of recognition if you are a regular factor in their lives. This can be one of the saddest parts of a dementia journey and the most difficult for the apparent forgotten loved ones. There are many ways to help the family through this difficult process and we are on hand to advise any time.

Can the care continue if the person gets worse and
needs more care?

This is a question we get often. With BYS we are with you from the minute we start our support to the end of the individual’s eventual life. If a person’s wish is to be at home and we can facilitate the medical help they may need through the community teams then we will. People often ask if there is a point that we won’t continue to care. That answer is NO. we will not leave you on any journey that you are on. There are very few reasons care stops with BYS they are mainly that they no longer need us due to rehabilitation or they have passed away.

What happens when the money runs out?

This is a big one! We will signpost you and support you through any financial assessment needed to get the funding needed. It can be a stressful process but having a support system in place will help the experience be less so.
