Carer Courses & Development
We currently have a number of course available that range from a care certificate course to more specific dementia education.
The ‘Care Certificate Course’ focuses on the fundamentals of care, proving that those who have taken the course have demonstrated the skills and knowledge to care and meet the legal requirements to work in a care environment.
Our dementia courses range from a FREE two hour introduction to dementia and its effects, to a two day course that looks at installing positive mind-sets and practices to those supporting individuals with dementia and follows our own proactive philosophy.
Dementia Friends Sessions (Part of the Alzheimer’s Society)
This is an introduction session to dementia and its effects.
COURSE DURATION & ATTENDANCE
- 1-2 Hour Session
Free of charge
- Can be held at any venue
- Minimum attendance 5 people
- Maximum attendance 20 people
- Multiple sessions can be organised at one venue throughout a day
- Special adapted version available for School Children and Groups such as Scouts, Brownies, Guides etc
- Part of the Alzheimer's Society
Introduction to Dementia
This is a course that builds on from the dementia friend’s sessions and goes into more detail about dementia and will have the following outcomes:
- Understanding of what dementia is
- Key features of the theoretical models of dementia
- Know the most common types of dementia and their causes
- Understanding factors relating to an individual’s experience of dementia.
COURSE DURATION & ATTENDANCE
- 3-4 Hours training course
- £30.00 per person (based on 5 people attending)
- Venue can be work/home based or facilities arranged (venue costs not included in per person charge)
- Minimum 5 people
- Maximum 10 people (venue facilities dependant)
The Care Certificate
The Care Certificate provides clear evidence to employers, patients and people who receive care and support that the health or social care support worker in front of them has been assessed against a specific set of 15 mandatory standards and has demonstrated they have the skills, knowledge and behaviours to ensure that they provide compassionate and high quality care and support. These standards cover the areas that are common to both these workforces and meet the legal requirement for providers of regulated activities to ensure that their staff are suitably trained.
COURSE DURATION & ATTENDANCE
- 5-day full time course
- £350.00 per person (based on minimum of three attendees) and £75.00 for single refresher days
- Single days available for refresher days
- Costs to be confirmed in March
- Venue can be work based or facilities arranged
- Minimum 3 people
- Maximum 8 (venue facilities dependant)
Developing a Positive and Proactive Dementia Workforce
This course is designed for practitioners, service providers and their teams to install a positive mind-set and practices in their care and support for those living with dementia.
- This course includes:
- Understand Least restrictive practice
- Understand the Theory of abilities based care
- Understand Maslow’s gold standards of dementia care
- Understand how cognitive functions are affected
- Understand Claudia Allen – Best ability to Function
- Communication in dementia
- Understand how to respond to a crisis
- Understand how to debrief and use ABC charts

Terms and Conditions for Training Courses
Please advise us in advance if delegate(s) have any special dietary requirements, any physical disabilities that would impact upon the course or any communication barriers that would impact upon the training course. We will endeavour to cater for everyone but we do require notification in advance.
Delegates should be physically fit to withstand the rigours of any practical based training. If there are any doubts about the fitness of a delegate to attend a training course, then the onus will be on the client and delegate to seek a medical opinion.
Delegates are required to arrive at the course in good time. If the delegate is unable to attend on the day of training due to unforeseen circumstances, we will still have to charge you as we still incur the costs and will not be able to sell the place to another client.
By Your Side Limited reserves, the right to cancel or alter the dates or provision of service, the venue and the individual or organisation providing the service. In the event of a cancellation, bookings will normally be transferred to the next available course unless the client specifically requests otherwise. If a booking is cancelled or transferred to a different course by the client, By Your Side Ltd reserves the right to apply the following charges;

Non‐attendance without notice — 100%
Telephone cancellations can be accepted but must be confirmed immediately in writing (by post or email).
Please ensure that payment is received within 30 days of the invoice &/or before the event – whichever is sooner.
Your place on a course will be confirmed once payment has been made (training certificates will not be dispatched until full payment is received).
By Your Side Limited hereby limits its liability for any loss or damage, or any consequential or indirect loss arising from the performance of or failure by By Your Side Limited to perform any of the hereunder to two times the fee received by the By Your Side Limited in the calendar year in which the alleged negligence occurred.
